To help answer some commonly asked questions, we have put together this FAQ page. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you want additional information on a topic or have questions.


What is Core Knowledge based learning? 

While current events and technology are constantly changing, there is a body of lasting knowledge that should form the core of a K-8 grade curriculum.  The Core Knowledge sequence provides a clear outline of content to be learned grade by grade.  This sequential building of knowledge helps ensure that children enter each new grade ready to learn.  Please take a moment to read through the enclosed Core Knowledge literature which will outline what your child will be taught.

What is the Afternoon Specials program?

To help facilitate a well rounded education, students are taught their core curriculum in the morning and rotate classes in the afternoon.  Teachers teach the afternoon programs based on their knowledge or a particular subject.  Each student is given the opportunity to participate in Art, Computers, Physical Education, Drama, Spanish and throughout the week.  Along with these afternoon programs, Kachina encourages teachers to take field trips as an additional learning tool.

What documentation will I need to complete for enrollment?

An enrollment packet is available in the office, which includes all the enrollment forms and general information regarding Kachina Country Day School. A copy of your child's Birth Certificate and immunization record or immunization exemption form will need to given to the office prior to your child's first day of school.

Who are the administrative staff members? 

Mrs. Janece Kline is the Executive Director and Mr. Steve Prahcharov is the Principal. Ms. Beth Winger is the office manager. You may contact her and she will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Where is the office located? 

Kachina Country Day School is located on the South/West corner of 56th Street and Shea Blvd. We are the first driveway on the right, just South of Shea. Our office is located on the West-side of the building.

What are the school hours? 

Monday through Thursday, school is in session from 8:30am-3:30pm.  Friday is a half day ending at 12:30pm.

What is Kachina’s uniform policy

Kachina follows a school uniform policy to promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment. Shirts are embroidered with the school logo and come in white and navy blue.  Uniforms are available for purchase on campus.  Pant, skirt and short colors are black, khaki or navy blue, and may be purchased at any store.  Closed shoes are required. Is before and aftercare available? 

Yes, both are available at a rate of $7 per hour.  Before care begins at 7:30am and aftercare is available until 5:30pm.  You will need to sign out your child when picking them up.

What Enrichment programs are available after school?

Kachina is proud to offer art, dance, chess, tutoring, computer workshop, tennis and swimming as enrichment programs for students at an additional cost.

Is a lunch program available? 

Lunch will need to be brought from home.  Supervised lunch breaks are scheduled for each class in the cafeteria. Children are not permitted to bring a "hot" lunch that needs to be heated up and sodas and Energy drinks are also highly discouraged. Snacks are provided for the aftercare program.

Where do I drop off/pick up my child for school? 

Drop off and pick up are located by the school front entrance on the West-side of the building.Incoming traffic will come in at the 56th Street entrance and leave through the Shea Blvd. exit. Cars will line up in two lines and will be dismissed by the Classes line up in the parking area for dismissal.  There is a teacher in charge of directing traffic and making sure that students are safely escorted to the car.
